Blue Skies Workroom is Alyssa's project to make HAPPINESS abound in everyday living

"I make joyful, thoughtfully-designed, easy-to-wear clothing, accessories and home goods for real real-life and real bodies. My garments, bags, tea towels and books are made in small runs using linen and cotton yardage and paper I screenprint using eco-friendly water-based inks. As a large and active woman, I place special emphasis on working to flatter sizes M to XXL. All work - designing, printing and sewing - is done in my Richmond Virginia studio." - Alyssa Salomon

ABOUT ALYSSA

Alyssa Salomon grew up loving cloth and paper, and steeped in creativity and entrepreneurship. Her grandfather was a tailor in Brooklyn, New York; she learned to sew form her mother; and for more than three decades continues to maintain an active studio practice and exhibition schedule. Alyssa served as artist in residence at Virginia Commonwealth University's Business School, Rice Rivers Center, Pyramid Atlantic and St. Mary's College. She has taught extensively in VCU School of the Arts, at Penland School of Craft, and at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, as well as at numerous other schools and programs. Alyssa's work has been recognized with two Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Professional Fellowships; Best in Show from Contemporary Art Center of Virginia; both an Excellence in Fiber and an Excellence in Art to Wear awards during Craft + Design; Adjunct Faculty Research Grants; and a Wingate Scholarship. Long ago, Alyssa worked in investment banking, in department store advertising, and through her Richmond-based financial services practice, as GWAR's accountant. Alyssa holds a BA in Studio Art and Art History from Kenyon College, and an MBA with a concentration in Finance from University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
